So many people bought four to five years ago when the real estate market was at its peak and now that the bubble has burst prices are upside down.One of my clients initially put her house on the market at the price she paid, taking the hit for all of the repairs and upgrades she and her husband had made in the last three years. Slowly, she began to lower the price until she couldn't go any further. It wasn't long before my client realized she was not going to get her money back with the property on the real estate market. That''s when she turned to the rental market and specifically, the furnished rental market and listed the place with me. She and hubby became "accidental landlords".
Industry News: From Holiday to Corporate

I started out years ago working for a vacation rental agency. I loved it as I got to meet new and interesting people from all over the world. Over time I came to work for myself with one or two private properiesit. I felt like I was operating my own hotel. Oh the fantasy a lot of people have being an "inn-keeper", offering hospitality to visitors and of course being an authority on your my neck of the woods. I enjoyed providing as close to a 5 Star experience as possible.
In 2008-2009 it appeared the party was over - tourism visitors, especially the Americans whom we were so dependent on were not coming. Those who still wanted to holiday up here were looking for bargain basment prices - which desperate owners were only to happy to provide.
The came salvation as early as 2010 when the first influx of corporate placements arrived. Since then local and international firms, some based here have brought in all kinds of specialists, consultants and professionals from all over the world to fulfill lucrative government contracts. In one to two seasons they have single-handedly booked up all available furnished housing in the downtown area and this year have spread out to James Bay, Fairfield, Songhees and Oak Bay areas. Transitioning from holiday rentals to coprporate housing has been extremely rewarding . . .
